LG Washing Machine IE Error: Meaning and Fix

Quick answer

IE is LG's water inlet error. The tub did not fill to the right level in the set time. It is usually a closed or half-open tap, a bent inlet hose, a blocked inlet filter or low water pressure, not a broken machine.

Common causes

  • Tap closed or not fully open, or the inlet hose not connected
  • Inlet hose pressed or bent
  • Inlet filter blocked with rust, sand or small stones
  • Hose or tap frozen in cold weather
  • Low household water pressure (LG India says IE is often a water-pressure issue, not a machine fault)
  • Top load: drain hose pushed too deep into the drain pipe, so water siphons out while filling

Fix it step by step

  1. Make sure the inlet hose is connected and open the tap fully.
  2. Straighten the inlet hose. If it is badly bent, close the tap, disconnect the hose and lay it out straight.
  3. Clean the inlet filter: close the tap, unplug the machine, take the hose off the machine, pull out the small filter by hand or with pliers, wash off rust and sand under running water, put it back and reconnect the hose.
  4. Top load only: check the drain hose. LG says to push it no more than 10 cm into the drain pipe and not to bend or block it.
  5. Open the tap fully again and restart the cycle.

Questions people ask

My LG machine shows 1E. Is that the same as IE?

LG's error code lists have no 1E code. LG's water inlet error is IE, written with the letter I.

Are IE, E02 and E10 the same error?

Yes. LG lists IE, E02 and E10 together as the water inlet error.

Is IE the same on top load and front load LG machines?

Yes, both mean the machine could not fill. On top load models LG also asks you to check that the drain hose is not pushed too deep into the drain pipe.

Does IE mean my machine is faulty?

Not usually. LG India says IE is often a household water-pressure issue. LG says the water supply valve may be at fault only if IE continues after the checks.
